ABOUT US
The Office of International Affairs (OIA) oversees transnational educational programs per the requirements of the Commission on Higher Education and implements international faculty and student exchange programs, as well as short-term special programs for foreign students. It serves as the primary point of contact for international students and faculty before they arrive at Northwest Samar State University (NwSSU).

Vision
NwSSU- OIA aspires to foster international engagement and meaningful collaborations with international partners and linkages.
Mission
To attain this vision, the Northwest Samar State University, through the Office of International Affairs, shall endeavor to: boost the institution’s international ability and visibility; build extraordinary relationships with other universities in the international arena; and develop strategic networking and collaboration initiatives.
FUNCTIONS
- Monitor records and periodically report on past and potential agreements.
- Participate in the preparation, review, finalization, and signing of Memoranda of Agreement and/or Understanding, as well as follow-up and coordinate implementation of programs.
- Coordinate with the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs and foreign embassies regarding cultural exchanges, scholarships, fellowships, research associate ships, donations, etc.
- Coordinates visits of foreign delegations and academic officials as well as representatives of international funding agencies
- Coordinate with the appropriate NWSSU offices on international linkage programs
- Disseminate information on formalized linkages and provisions.
- Brief Deans, Directors, Colleges, and Offices involved in such linkages concerning mechanics to be observed, initiations, and implementations
- Consult experts and resources in the formulation and preparation of proposals for international programs
- Implement strategies for broadening and strengthening collaborations with international educational institutions and organizations.
- Negotiate, disseminate, and motor invitations for fellowships, scholarships, workshops, and training programs.
HIGHLIGHTS
🌍 Faculty Mobility and Promotion Abroad
- Event: UTM Mobility Carnival 2024 (May 27–30, Johor Bahru, Malaysia)
- Highlight: NwSSU faculty represented the university to promote academic offerings and explore international partnerships.
🌐 Student International Exposure
- Program: Hybrid Asia Exploration Program (Sept 13–19, Surabaya, Indonesia)
- Highlight: BTLED student participated in cultural and academic immersion activities, promoting intercultural competence.
🤝 Hosting of International Visitors
- Event: Summer Cultural Exchange Program (Aug 16–20, 2024)
- Visitors: 2 faculty and 5 students from Vietnam and Indonesia
- Highlight: Strengthened international partnerships and benchmarking through educational and cultural exchange.
🏞️ Conference Participation Abroad
- Event: International Conference on Community Forestry (Mar 4–5, Kathmandu, Nepal)
- Highlight: Faculty presented research and initiated linkage talks with South Asian institutions.
🇵🇭 National Conference with Global Reach
- Event: International Education Conference (IEC 2024, Sept 11–12, Pangasinan)
- Highlight: Participation aligned university practices with Education 5.0 global trends through exposure to international speakers and innovations.
