Women leaders and advocates took center stage as female students and university personnel gathered at the Business Development Center of Northwest Samar State University (NwSSU) Main Campus on March 11, 2026 for theย Symposium on Women Leadership and Sustainable Development, featuring a talk by Ms. Gloria Melencio.

The symposium brought together female students, teaching and non-teaching staff from the Main Campus, along with teaching staff from the San Jorge Campus, for a discussion on the vital role of women in shaping sustainable and inclusive communities. In her presentation, Melencio underscored the power of womenโ€™s leadership in driving social change and strengthening community development.

The program opened with remarks from Dr.ย Riz Rupert L. Ortiz, Vice President for Research, Innovation and Extension, who highlighted the universityโ€™s continuing support for gender-responsive initiatives. The activity concluded with closing remarks from Ms. Trina Valerie Merencillo, Head of the Gender and Development Office, NwSSU San Jorge Campus.

The symposium served as a platform for reflection and dialogue, reaffirming the universityโ€™s commitment to empowering women and advancing gender equality within the academic community.ย
