Northwest Samar State University (NWSSU) has begun talks with several national agencies to boost its agricultural education, research, and extension services. The move reflects the universityโs continued effort to expand opportunities for its students and strengthen its role in advancing sustainable agriculture.
Dr. Jessie R. Sabijon, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Technology at NwSSU Main Campus and Mrs. Gerry May Espejon, BS Agriculture Program Chairperson at the San Jorge Campus, personally delivered letters of intent to the Department of Science and Technology โ Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (DOST-PNRI), the Department of Agriculture โ Bureau of Agriculture and Fishery Standards (DA-BAFS), and the Department of Agriculture โ National Organic Agriculture Program (DA-NOAP).

Initial discussions with these agencies centered on possible collaborations that would open internship placements for BS Agriculture students, promote joint research initiatives for faculty and students, and strengthen community-based
extension activities. These partnerships are expected to give students meaningful exposure to national-level agricultural practices and emerging technologies, including the use of nuclear science in farming.
Once formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), these collaborations will help position NWSSU as a strong partner in developing standards, advancing organic agriculture, and nurturing future leaders who will champion
innovation and sustainability in Philippine agriculture.
